According to David Wolf’s “Eating for Beauty”
“Durian contains high levels of tryptophan.
This is an amino acid and a tryptamine (similar to serotonin, melatonin, and DMT).
Researchers have discovered that tryptophan helps both anxious, depressed, repressed people, as well as insomniacs.
Tryptophan works by raising serotonin levels in the brain.
When serotonin levels increase, a euphoric feeling is felt as a free passage is cleared for nerve impulses to travel.
Durian is such a strong blood cleaner that eating durian changes the odor of urine (urine is filtered out of blood).
What gives durian its strongest beautifying characteristics is its high concentration of raw oleic fats (and vitamin E), sulphur compounds, and soft proteins.
Durian actually contains one of the highest concentrations of protein of any fruit, making it an excellent muscle builder.
Organic sulfurcompounds among other properties in durian are very cleansing for the body.
Durian provides “more concentrated healthful energy in food form than any other product the world affords”
Durians keep the body vigorous and tireless; the mind alert with faculties undimmed; the spirit youthful.

Khun Poh
This durian takes the name of the late Mr Lau Khun Poh, who first budded it. Khun Poh has beautiful orangy flesh with a slightly bitter-sweet taste and a heavy aroma.
The flesh of the Hor Loh is very soft, dry and quite bitter.
It has a sharp smell to it. Hor Loh was first cultivated at the Brown Estate
of Sungai Ara. It got its name from its appearance resembling a 'Hor Lor' pumpkin. If the durian hits the ground hard when it falls,
the flesh tends to be bitter thereafter.
Ang Heh originates from Pondok Upeh, Balik Pulau, and has a round-shaped husk. The orange-reddish flesh is highly aromatic, very soft with a bitter-sweet taste.
Xiao Hung (Little Red Durian)
Xiao Hung, whose name means 'Little Red One,' originates in Sungai Pinang, Balik Pulau.

The flesh has a bittersweet taste to it, with a touch of sourness. The one that I tasted for this write-up is a bit hard. There are only one or two seeds per section, but the flesh is thick.
Bak Eu has a slightly acidic aroma. The flesh is whitish while the taste is quite bitter but nice.
Raja Kunyit......The flesh of the Raja Kunyit is creamy and yellowish like the turmeric (yellow ginger). It has a strong fragrance. The seeds are small, flat and uneven. The origin of the fruit is Gua Musang. Hence the name Musang King. The are many fake Raja Kunyit in the market.
Durian Tree
Beside durian fruit itself, the flesh can be made to durian cake, durian ice cream, durian tart and many more. Like in Thailand, durian is taken with glutinous rice.

My mother used to make durian ice for us in those days. She always used the not ripe durian flesh to make the ice stick for us. The durian flesh cooked with sugar and then let it cooler and pour inside long tube plastic bag and kept inside freeze. the durian ice can be kept for months inside the freeze.
